Summer fun & Summer quilting

Community summer events are so fun! The Sunday before last we went to the Marquette county fair to watch Harness horse racing. Now we did not know a thing about this but it apparently is quite popular. The lions club sold betting tickets and many hand fun with that. We are not gamblers so we just enjoyed the race.

The beginning of each race was announced…just like at Churchill downs I guess.

Some races were close.

Sponsors got their pictures taken with winning horse.

It was a lot of fun watching the races.

Next up we went to Eldorado community picnic. This was about an hour east of us. We wentfor the food and entertainment with was “The Del Rays” a group from Oshkosh. They were very good a nice change from the usual groups we see. This place was packed and the weather was great!

I finished up “My Straits of Caribbean”. I changed the border from scrap neutrals to a aqua print. These 9 blocks were enough for me, cannot imagine a whole quilt…but I guess I do do Bonnie’s mysteries. I may save this for hand quilting during our fall trip.

Next few weeks going to focus on some machine quilting. One quilt will be in a fair and others just need to get quilted. I think I have had my fix for sewing blocks for a bit.

Daughter Cherith passed her NCLEX exam last week so officially a RN. Today was her first day of orientation. We plan on seeing her and her apartment next week when we drop off a few things she has in storage in our garage.

Saturday we took a lovey ride to look at a log cabin with a wonderful view. The view indeed was breath taking, but we felt a little isolated. I worry that my spouse will not have enough to do. Also the price of cabin for only living ther for 6 months did not make much sense. I think we will probably put condo up on market next year when we return and may look at apartment living. Not sure he will like that either, but he can be a restless soul. We still would like to be close to family.

Today added a little hill to my walk, went ok. Humid next few days so I do not do walking. Will probably do some pool exercises.

Happy Quilting!

Aqua colors…remind me of the ocean

I fell in love with Bonnie Hunters  block “Straits of Mackinac”. I even purchased some aqua fabric last winter just for this block. I decided this holiday weekend to begin sewing the blocks. It uses a lot of her favorite blocks. I decided to do 9 blocks and this was plenty. I cut and sewed the block sections, one per day. Today got to put the block together. I decided today to do the “Rest and Refreshing” blocks as leader and Enders.

I also started hand Quilting the mystery quilt for the Sunflower guild. It also has a lot of aqua in it as well as verigated aqua thread. Simple quilt design.

We went to Waupan yesterday for entertainment and pork sandwiches. Tomorrow headed to Columbus for that city’s entertainment. We have not been there for years. Meeting family for a fun afternoon. Weather has been great! Hannah is returning from hot Arizona. Abigail and her friends hiked Sedona and Grand Canyon this past weeken. Cherith has moved into her first apartment this weekend and Hannah is going to stop by tomorrow to crash there a day while Cherith works for the last time as a CNA. She will take her NCLEX next Tuesday. So far everyone from her nursing class has passed. I am sure she will as will. She is spending time studying and taking sample tests.

Happy Quilting and Happy Fourth of July!

Graduation pomp and ceremony

While quilting is a current passion, I admit I had another…Nursing. 27 years ago I graduated from a BSN program and began my nursing career. Oh the many different pathways it has taken me. My daughter decided on this career and choose a fine college Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, WI. She has worked very hard and many stressful days has lead to this wonderful celebration. Last night she received her nursing pin. A tradition that started by Florence Nightengale and has continued to this day. A previous nursing alumni even mentioned Cherith as when she was in Zambia last summer, a mother asked her to name her child…the name given was Emily. This touched Cherith so much. I am so proud of her accomplishment and know the hard work she has done. She will be working on a Med-surg floor beginning in mid July. She will next week use Kaplan nursing review course to prepare for boards or now called NCLEX, in early July. My husband and my oldest daughter were able to see a wonderful graduation, music, pomp and ceremony and the speeches. We wish her God’s Blessings on her next chapter in life.

Aboveis picture of the nursing class after pinning ceremony.

Our youngest daughter Abi also graduated and now is a realtor at Long in Tucson Az. She also is very excited for this new career. Will will be working on the internet team and doing some open houses to establish a referral base. She is one of the youngest. We also wish her the best as she starts this career.

Our oldest Hannah is here with her first class. This is a field trip and I love this picture. Next week they will graduate from Prek and Kindergarten. She will have her first year of teaching completed. I think she is ready for a vacation, in fact she will be visiting Abi in a few weeks.

Lots to celebrate and so Thankful!!!  My girls all now have careers and living their life. I have always wondered what they will be when they grow up. Now I know…at least as of today…

Happy Quilting

Charity quilt progress -1

Made a little progress on this quilt. So far I am liking it. Playing around with the top and bottom corners with different fabrics. Today did a bit more sewing…more of distraction therapy for my back/leg pain. But early afternoon had to stop and did a little reading. I had my MRI yesterday. Since I got a CD of the pictures I was able to view them.  Being a nurse I can look at the picture, use the internet and I can maybe self diagnose. Well I will wait until Monday.

Wanted to share a few pictures of the added additions I mentioned to the Allietarecherith quilt. Very pleased with them.

Now Cherith does not like spiders but she loves cats…so perfect!

Had two visitors and one seems a bit interested in my homemade leaves on a stick….well they are orange.

Happy Quilting!

Back in Wisconsin…

Our return drive was uneventful. Sunny warm days excellent for car travel. Our new Prius has a few new bells and whistles which were also fun. Gas mileage was great and new safety features awesome. We got home on Sunday late afternoon. Whiskers was happy to see us. However our condo was very humid. We are on a concrete slab and it has been wet of late. We noticed lots of condensation on our floors and underneath furniture. We also have water in our ducts. We will be in contact with the builder as the condo owner said a trench was dug around the condo when our joint neighbor also had the problems a few years ago. We moved in late summer. So we went from little humidity to 78%, my curly hair has returned. To day able to open the windows and got the humidity down to the low 60’s. Everything is just damp. Our concern it mold! Otherwise good to be back, everything is green and trees flowering.

My back continues to be uncomfortable. I made an appointment to see an orthopedic MD. While he took X-rays, said I have some arthritis but a bit hard to tell if I have a herniated disc. So left appointment with no answer, pain and to schedule MRI. The office was to do this but I ended up scheduling it and having them call for the order. I am a nurse and I know how things work or do not work. So the MRI is tomorrow, 24 hours to read it, then follow up but of course his office hours are not until next Monday. So another week goes by. I guess if I need an injection that could also be another week. Good grief! I am able to get around the house, but worrying about my strength in my left leg, I may need PT as well. We decided to cancel our trip to TN in a few weeks thinking this might not be done in time. We will plan to go early fall. Standing is difficult so husband has become a temporary cook. I have a graduation the following weekend, so would love to have the injection prior…but we will see.

I was able to unpack my sewing stuff. I had done a lot of cutting for one charity quilt prior to leaving. I was able to work on it a bit today sewing half and quarter size triangles. Quick picture of some of the blocks and material. I have all the blocks finished so I can begin to put it together. I designed it from patternjam. I hear they are going out of business. They are going to try to keep the designing web site up and running for now. This is such a cool site! My plan is to sew several charity quilts with some of the material I brought back.

I washed my daughter’s graduation quilt….Allietarecherith. I had only one fabric that ran, out of so many reds…was pleased. So rewashed with 2 new color catchers and no bleeding noted. I hand sewed a spider and small cat on the quilt. I will keep that to myself. I am going to enter it in our country fair.

I have several new followers….welcome! I will have to check out your blogs in near future. Thanks for reading!

Happy Quilting to all!

Blessings abound

So here is my sewing stuff packed up for return home. Hopefully it will all fit. This is a dining room with no furniture and was my design wall down here. I may use it as a sewing room, but really prefer our kitchen area. We will see when we return.Today just soaking in the last Arizona warmth. Sun is too hot to sit out in. Pool is closed due to some renovations. Finished lightly cleaning home as it really is pointless due to all the dust that comes. Will have one final chiropractor treatment down here, last adjustment I reverted back to old way and past two days were not great. A bit better later today.

Cherith who will be an RN had here interview and will work on a med-surgical orthopedic floor. She had been working there every third weekend as a CNA since last summer and really likes the staff and they her. So excited to be offered a job and she has accepted. So things falling into place for her. Plans to start as RN mid July and will work a few hours as CNA will studying for her NCLEX that she will take beginning of July.

Abigail also passed her real estate exam yesterday and today will meet with Long Realty and sign a contract. She really has worked hard and the exam was more difficult that she thought. So now just needs to have a few weeks of their orientation and then she will be working. Hoping for success for her. Her apartment is giving her issues with roaches. She has tried a lot of things but needs to work with management and bug company.

So for now nice to see all girls settled into jobs. We have planned a few short trips this summer and would like to see more towns in Wisconsin.

Whiskers we are on our way….

Happy Quilting…sure miss it…
